Shaft is Still the Baddest Motha’ Around

Three generations of John Shaft lovers will undoubtedly enjoy the third installment of the film directed by Tim Story. Originally dubbed as a blaxploitation crime action film, Shaft is still delivering the cutting-edge action. All while entertaining, Shaft also tells the story about protecting the ones you love no matter what it takes.

John Shaft Jr. is an FBI cyber security expert, whose main mission at hand is to uncover the untimely death of his best friend. In a weird turn of events, Jr. is reunited with his father who helps him solve the murder mystery.As both Jr. and Sr. work together to solve the murder, Sr. is reminded of an old score that he must settle that led to the dissolution of his relationship with his son. In the tale of events, Jr. is also reminded how his father abandon him, but the two eventually reunite for the love of solving crimes.

The legend, Samuel L. Jackson brings the funny in the film with his comedic punch lines. Jessie T. Usher and Jackson made a dynamic duo, and I hope the two work together again in the future. Actress Regina Hall made a cameo in the film, and her comedic punch lines where right up there with Jackson.

What made the film more historic was to see three generations of the Shaft men side-by-side. Legendary actor, and the original Shaft, Richard Roundtree made an appearance and participated in some action.As a music junkie and self proclaimed music critic, the soundtrack to Shaft was incredible. The music scores paid homage to music from the previous films. We still hear snippets from Isaac Hayes original theme song to the film with an added twist.

Overall, Shaft is the kind of film that mature family members can see together to bring back old members. In the movie theatre, there were generations of men seeing the film with their sons and grandsons.

Seeing three generations of Shaft men also leaves one to wonder if there will be another installment of the film. Time will tell.Between the action packed scenes to Jackson’s comedic twists and the music score, Shaft is worth seeing. This film can be seen as a date night out, or just hanging out with the boys. Movie goers of any kind will enjoy Shaft.
